Maritzburg United stunned by Callies as Black Leopards edge Gallants
Maritzburg United were stunned 3-1 by Pretoria Callies in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Saturday at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
Struggling Pretoria Callies claimed their first win of the 2023/24 season. Callies have had a poor start to the campaign after winning one game, drawing eight and losing four times.
They are sitting 15th on the league table with 11 points after 13 games.
On the other hand, Maritzburg are winless in their last two games after playing a goalless draw against NB La Masia on Friday, 10 November at Isak Steyl Stadium.
The KZN-based side lies sixth on the log with 19 points in 13 matches. They won five games, drew four and lost on four occasions.
Elsewhere, Orbit College maintained their lead at the summit of the NFD table after beating JDR Stars 2-1 at Olympia Park Stadium.
The Mswenko Boys, as they are affectionately known, have been in impressive form which saw them win eight league games, drawing one while losing in four outings. They accumulated 25 points in 13 games played.
Dan Malesela’s Baroka FC were the biggest winners of the weekend as they pummeled NB La Masia 4-1. The win saw them keep up pace with Orbit, as they trail them by just two points after 13 games.
BLACK LEOPARDS BEAT MARUMO GALLANTS IN THE LIMPOPO DERBY
Meanwhile, Black Leopards claimed a 3-2 victory over Marumo Gallants at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday in the Vhembe derby. Leopards moved to ninth spot on the log with 17 points in after 13 points.
In addition, Upington City played to a 1-1 draw against Platinum City Rovers at Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.
