Ramoreboli storms out of presser after ‘black magic’ accusations in Wydad win
Jwaneng Galaxy head coach Morena Ramoreboli stormed out of a press conference on Saturday night after a Moroccan journalist implied that his side used black magic in their historic win over Wydad Casablanca.
Ramoreboli’s troops handed Moroccan giants Wydad AC a shock 1-0 defeat at home in a CAF Champions League Group B clash in Casablanca.
Galaxy forward Thabang Sesinyi capitalised on a blunder by a Wydad AC defender in the 33rd minute, silencing the crowd with his decisive strike.
Sesinyi’s goal in a game dominated by Wydad with 22 shots at goal, nine on target, and 80 per cent ball possession also saw Galaxy secure their first-ever win in the Champions League group stages.
Despite Wydad’s overwhelming dominance, Sesinyi’s goal was enough to hand the Botswana champions the perfect start to the group stages of the competition.
However, the tactical masterclass by Ramoreboli was marred by accusations of witchcraft against his Galaxy players with the Moroccans seemingly failing to accept defeat with grace.
The black magic, also known as ‘Juju’ claim came after Galaxy FC players were seen walking towards the corner flag after their pitch inspection. They gathered around the corner flag, with one player kneeling and pouring a liquid from a water bottle onto the ground. It is unclear what the liquid is.

Ramoreboli was visibly angry as he responded to the black magic question, insisting that Galaxy deserves respect and the journalist was being ‘unfair’.
The journalist’s insinuations suggested that Galaxy’s victory was achieved through black magic rather than Ramoreboli’s astute tactical approach and coaching expertise.
The SA-born coach Ramoreboli abruptly left the press conference after stating that his players were warming up before the game, dismissing the sorcery claim.
“You [journalist] are being unfair,” said a visibly angry Ramoreboli. “I said they were doing warm up, they did warm up before the game.
“You are undermining me, you are saying we won because of black magic, don’t disrespect us. I’m very sorry but he can’t be talking like that,” concluded Ramoreboli as he walked out of the presser.
Galaxy reached the group stages after overcoming Vipers SC from Uganda and Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in the qualifiers.
Ramoreboli’s men were expected to struggle in Group B, with Wydad AC, Simba SC, and ASEC Mimosas considered the frontrunners. But Galaxy continue to defy the odds as they are at the summit of the group.
