Cavin Johnson believes Jasond Gonzalez will surprise people
Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson is optimistic he will get the better out of striker Jasond Gonzalez just like he did with another Colombian Luis Robinson Renteria.
There were high expectations when Gonzalez was signed by the DStv Premiership giants earlier in the season.
ARE KAIZER CHIEFS FANS LOSING PATIENCE WITH NEWLY SIGNED STRIKER?
But the 24-year-old has not entirely impressed in his first few games with some Amakhosi faithful questioning his signing. Johnson, who worked with Gonzalez’s countryman Renteria while at Platinum Stars, believes there is more the striker can offer at Chiefs, but he only needs time.
“I think the Colombians, having worked with a Colombian before, remember [Robinson ]Renteria? They are very stubborn people,” he said.
“But they also love football and I have been trying to understand what Gonzalez is all about because that’s how I got the best out of Renteria. If we give him a little more opportunity and I am able to train with him a little bit more, he will get used to what the Kaizer Chiefs brand is all about.
“South Americans don’t worry how big the brand is. As long as they are able to play in front of people and when they do that they shine a little bit better,” explained Johnson.
CAVIN JOHNSON BACKS JASOND GONZALEZ TO GET BETTER
“Yes, as a striker I think Gonzalez has something in his feet. He is going to surprise a lot more when he starts understanding who we are as Africans. Then you will probably see a little better of him.
“He has very good feet and a good body on him and he is physically getting better all the time. So I am expecting him to give us something as the season goes on. I expect him to give us more.”
