Could Pitso Mosimane make a local football comeback?
Pitso Mosimane has responded to whether he would consider taking up a coaching role in SA football as he’s currently unattached.
The Kagiso-born tactician has been working outside the country since 2020 when he left Mamelodi Sundowns for greener pastures at Al Ahly. He spent almost two years in Egypt before he stepped down.
He went on to mentor Al Ahli Saudi FC in Saudi Arabia, helping the side to gain promotion to the top-flight and thereafter parted ways with the club at the end of the last season.
‘Jingles’ was recently sacked by the UAE club Al Wahda having been at the helm for just four months.
Speaking to the South African Football Journalists Association (SAFJA) on Monday, Mosimane said returning to local football wouldn’t be up to him as it would also depend on the interests of his team.
He added that he would consider that decision if his colleagues gave a thumbs up to a local project.

“It’s not about me alone, the team that I have, there are guys that have been working with me for 11 years,” said Mosimane.
“You must understand when people have taken the decision to go with you for that long. You cannot make that decision by yourself alone because this is my A-team.
“With this team, I function. I don’t have to tell who’s doing the match analysis, who’s checking the opposition, who’s checking the matches we have played.
“You know the word that I always liked to use for a long time, corrections. What’s the vision of the training for this week? The strengths and weaknesses of the opponents. So, I have a strong team.
“We are professionals and I am led by the people. If the people say yes it is home, there are a few boxes that need to be ticked. Then it’s home.
“There’s no emotion here.”

Further, Mosimane stated he’d love to go back to coaching a national team with an ambition to win the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] and coaching in the FIFA World Cup. He said this when he responded to a question about links with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Mosimane was the head coach of Bafana Bafana between 2010 and 2012 having taken over after the departure of Carlos Alberto Gomes Parreira after the 2010 World Cup.
