TS Galaxy midfielder Mlungisi Mbunjana has opened up about his chances of representing Bafana Bafana at the 2024 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast next year.

The continental’s football elite tournament will take place from 13 January 2024 to 11 February 2024.

Mbunjana earned his first national team call up in the September camp. The midfield engine has made two appearances and these were against Namibia and DR Congo in international friendly matches.

MLUNGISI MBUNJANA SAYS IT’S HUGO BROOS’ DECISION TO SELECT HIM IN BAFANA BAFANA SQUAD

Mbunjana says it’s up to coach Hugo Broos to include him in the AFCON finals squad. His focus is on training hard and performing well during matches.

“That you can’t really control. What I can control is how I train, how I prepare myself and perform in games,” said Mbunjana.

“The coach [Hugo Broos] will decide if he needs me or doesn’t need me, that I can’t really control.

“But I can control trying to lead the guys [TS Galaxy] since I’m their leader. Make sure that I put the team forward, put the team first and try to get the results for the team. Play for the team, not for myself to be seen by the coach. We will see if I get into the squad.”

MLUNGISI MBUNJANA ON REPRESENTING BAFANA BAFANA

Mbunjana further added that it was an honour to represent his country and he gave his all.

“It’s always an honour to represent South Africa. There are a lot of players that drive to get to that position to play for Bafana Bafana.

“I was very fortunate and I was very privileged to be called up and given gametime to play. I played, I tried my best and I showed the coach what I can do,” Mbunjana added.
