Mike Makaab provides big update on Marou’s future at Pirates

Renowned football agent Mike Makaab has provided an update on the future of Souaibou Marou at Orlando Pirates as the January transfer window edges closer.

Marou has found the going tough at Pirates, struggling to cement a regular place in the starting line-up in the DStv Premiership.

The bulky attacker joined the Buccaneers in January 2023 from the Cameroonian side Coton Sport. He was part of the Cameroon squad that participated in the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.

Marou has only featured in seven appearances for Pirates in all competitions without scoring or contributing any assists.

The 22-year-old striker is competing with Zakhele Lepasa, Evidence Makgopa, Kermit Erasmus, and Bienvenu Eva Nga for a place in the Pirates’ starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Lepasa and Makgopa have shared the responsibility of scoring goals for the Soweto giants in the 2023/24 campaign.

The duo have averaged 13 goals between themselves since the start of the new season. Lepasa scored 10 goals in all competitions whereas Makgopa netted three goals, while also contributing two assists.

MIKE MAKAAB PONDERING MAROU’S MOVE AWAY FROM PIRATES

With Marou seemingly not in the plans of Pirates’ head coach Jose Riveiro, his agent Mike Makaab has revealed his client will leave the club in search of regular game-time elsewhere.

“We will address this [Souaibou Marou’s future] with Orlando Pirates. He definitely needs a move and start playing,” Makaab told FARPost.

It remains to be seen whether Marou will leave during January transfer window or when the season ends in May 2024.

On the other hand, Pirates have had an inconsistent start to the new season. They won four games in the league, drew another four, and lost three times. Ezimnyama Ngenkani are currently sitting ninth on the log with 16 points in 11 games played.

The Ghosts are 10 points adrift of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who accumulated 27 points after winning all their opening nine games of the season.

Pirates were tipped to pose a challenge to Sundowns in the title chase after making high-quality signings in the off-season. However, the Sea Robbers have struggled to find a consistent winning formula.
