Rulani Mokwena fumes after feeling ‘disrespected’ at presser

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena was left frustrated by a question in the press conference after his side lost 1-0 to TP Mazambe in the CAF Champions League.

The Group A Champions League clash took place at Stade TP Mazembe Stadium, in DR Congo.

Glody Likonza’s solitary goal in the 60th minute of the contest was enough to earn TP Mazembe maximum points at home.

After the game, there was an unpleasant scene at the post-match press conference. Coach Mokwena felt “disrespected” by a journalist in attendance, suggesting that Sundowns came to the game to lose.

RULANI MOKWENA’S REACTION TO A JOURNALIST

“We came here to lose the match? What do you mean we were not involved to score?,” asked Mokwena

“But Themba Zwane hit the crossbar in the first half. And Mudau hit the upright in the second half. I mean, I don’t understand.

“You want to tell me that we came here to lose the game? That’s very disrespectful.”

‘WE DON’T WORK HARD TO LOSE FOOTBALL MATCHES’

The Brazilians mentor went on to say that they don’t work day and night to come to lose football games.

“We don’t work hard and put so much hours to come and lose football matches. So, I find your question a little bit disrespectful,” he added.

“To be honest, if that’s the spirit that the press conference is going to be in, we may as well end it.”

Bafana Ba Style’s defeat to the Congolese side was Mokwena’s second defeat in CAF competitions since he took over the coaching reins at Sundowns as a solo coach.

Sundowns’ next Champions League assignment will be against Pyramid of Egypt on the 10th of December 2023.
