Rulani Mokwena’s reaction to the draw against Pyramids
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has shared his thoughts on the draw against Pyramids in Group A of the CAF Champions League.
The draw sees Sundowns on equal Points with all three teams in their Group after three matches played.
It was also the second successive game that the DStv Premiership Champions failed to score after the 1-0 defeat by TP Mazembe last week.
But Masandawana still enjoys a superior goal difference against their competitors with three games to go.
Mokwena conceded that they didn’t do enough in the first half but were better after the resumption of the second.
SOME POSITIVES FOR MAMELODI SUNDOWNS AFTER DRAW AGAINST PYRAMIDS FC
“A very difficult match where we were responsible for setting the intensity and the tempo of the game from the beginning. We didn’t do enough in the first half but I want to thank my players for responding in the second half and trying to play with a little bit of aggression and more intensity,” he said.
“We created a few more chances than in the first half and we were a little more aggressive in and around the box so the positives are that we responded and we gave it a go. But yeah I still have to share my thoughts with the players first and then watch the game again and get more comprehensive.”
RULANI MOKWENA REFUSES TO GIVE EXCUSES FOR RECENT MASANDAWANA RESULTS
Mokwena has also played down the suggestion that Sundowns could be suffering from the hangover of too many matches in CAF football.
“No, I don’t think we are suffering from that. I think we have a couple of situations, I don’t want to talk too much about those because the headline would be ‘Rulani complains or makes excuses’.
“We have so many things we can talk about that influence what’s going on at the moment. But we just have to soldier on, the universe has no budget for pity parties and we have to just soldier on. But definitely, a hangover is not one of the reasons for our performances at the moment,” he said.
