Timm reveals Maswanganyi’s main priority and it’s not representing Bafana
Orlando Pirates midfield engine Miguel Timm has revealed his teammate Patrick Maswanganyi’s main priority and it’s not representing Bafana Bafana at AFCON.
Bafana Bafana is amongst the national teams that booked a ticket for the 2024 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast in January.
Several players, both domestically and abroad, including Maswanganyi, have made their case for selection by Bafana coach Hugo Broos in the final squad.
Maswanganyi hit the ground running with the Soweto giants after making a switch from SuperSport United ahead of the 2022/23 PSL season.
Maswanganyi’s move to the Buccaneers raised eyebrows, but his impressive performances have silenced doubters and ignited calls for his inclusion in the national team. Many football supporters believe he has earned his chance to shine on the international stage.
In Pirates colours, the 25-year-old has contributed towards eight goals in all competitions from 21 matches. The attacker has found the back of the net three times and provided five assists.
Despite his good performances, Maswanganyi has been constantly been omitted by Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
MIGUEL TIMM ON PATRICK MASWANGANYI’S PRIORITY
Timm says Maswanganyi’s main priority is to improve at club level so he can be a better player when he gets a chance to represent the national team.
“I think being at the AFCON is not a main priority at the moment [for Patrick Maswanganyi]. But more on finding his full potential.” said Timm. I think at this moment he and all of us [at Pirates] are trying to guide him to be the best version of himself at club level so that he can find his highest level.
“The things that he can do are crazy, we trying to get him to get his full capacity”.
Timm further believes that Maswanganyi’s call-up to the national team is close and that he will be a great addition.
“Honestly, he hasn’t had a call-up yet. I think it’s coming sooner or later and he’s going to be important for the national team,” he added.
