FCSB president drops hint on Ngezana’s future: French club beckons
FCSB president Gigi Becali has offered a cryptic update on the future of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana.
Ngezana has been one of FCSB’s key players this season, and his performances have attracted attention from France.
Speculation is mounting about a possible January move, and Becali’s latest comments have only added fuel to the fire.
While Becali remained tight-lipped about the specific club interested in Ngezana, he did acknowledge that there have been discussions and that a transfer could be on the cards. The FCSB boss also emphasised the importance of securing a good deal for the club.
Interest in Ngezana comes at the back of some fine displays by the Amakhosi academy graduate. He is in his first season with the Romanian outfit, having joined in a deal worth R12 million [in June 2023].
The 26-year-old initially faced challenges, struggling during pre-season and taking eight matches to earn his first league start. However, a fortunate break presented itself when Romania captain Vlad Chiricheș suffered an injury, opening the door for Ngezana.
Since then, he hasn’t looked back, featuring in 13 consecutive matches and forming a solid partnership with Cameroon international Joyskim Dawa. This impressive run has helped propel FCSB to the top of the Superliga table, currently leading by five points.
Ngezana’s ingenuity has not gone unnoticed, with Ligue 1 side Lorient reportedly showing keen interest in acquiring his services. This potential move to France could be a significant step forward in Ngezana’s career, offering him a chance to compete at a higher level and showcase his talents on a bigger stage.
WHAT GIGI BECALI SAID ABOUT SIYABONGA NGEZANA
“No, they asked me how much it costs,” Becali told Fanatik when asked about reports of a French team interested. “But I didn’t say a penny now. It’s a team from France, but they don’t make prices on players before the championship is over.”
This statement suggests that Becali is open to selling Ngezana, but he is waiting for the right offer. He also emphasised his general philosophy of being open to any transfer offers for his players.
“Ngezana, Vasilescu, Georgescu, Lonescu and Popescue. Everyone, anyone, is for sale at my place,” Becali continued. “If they give me a good price, I’ll sell anyone. I’ll sell them all. I’m not attached to any player.”
