Pitso Mosimane drops bold statement on Kaizer Chiefs job

Former Al Wahda and Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has dropped a bold statement on the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job.

Chiefs are reportedly on a hunt for a permanent coach after parting ways with Molefi Ntseki in October due to a poor start to the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Amakhosi have since roped in Cavin Johnson in the coaching position on an interim basis. The ex-SuperSport United mentor has been in charge of five matches at Chiefs, winning three times and losing twice.

While Chiefs continues to blow hot and cold in the new season, the high-demanding supporters have been calling on the club hierarchy to bring Mosimane on board.

PITSO MOSIMANE NOT RULING OUT THE POSSIBILITY OF TAKING OVER AT CHIEFS

Asked if he would take the Chiefs coaching job, Mosimane said he would take any appealing project.

“If Maritzburg United which is relegated now, calls me and says bring back the team to the Premier League. I’ll just get the file that I brought back the biggest team in Saudi Arabia, Al Ahli,” Mosimane told Kaya FM.

“Not the Al Ahly in Egypt, now they have Firmino of Liverpool, they have [Riyaad] Mahrez. They also have Édouard Mendy from Chelsea.

“So I’m a professional, I go everywhere as long as you show me the vision and we are aligned. I’ll work for any team, I want to have the energy. I don’t want to wake up and do it for the sake of doing it.

“I need to say why I want to do this, so you ask me about Kaizer Chiefs, what an institution, I mean I supported the team when I was young.

“In fact, Doctor Khumalo’s father used to take me to the matches of Kaizer Chiefs because my Uncle used to play for Kaizer Chiefs.

“Doctor Khumalo was still young, today when I see him I get humble. So I used to watch Kaizer Chiefs, I watched Chiefs train in Phefeni in front of Kaizer Motaung’s house.

“They were training in the dust, not on the turf. I saw them there, what an institution, what a team,” Mosimane added.

Meanwhile, Chiefs’ inconsistent start to the season saw them miss out on two domestic trophies. They were eliminated from the MTN8 by Mamelodi Sundowns early in the season before being knocked out of the Carling Knockout Cup by AmaZulu FC.
