Talking points as Pirates hand Arrows their fifth straight league defeat

Orlando Pirates defeated struggling Golden Arrows 2-1 in the DStv Premiership on Sunday afternoon at Mpumalanga Stadium to hand them their fifth straight league defeat.

The match referee Masixole Bambiso awarded two penalties which were converted by the two teams in the first half respectively.

Patrick Maswanganyi scored for Pirates, whilst Vusimuzi Sibiya scored for the hosts. Karim Kimvuidi then restored Pirates’ lead in the 56th minute.

KATLEGO OTLADISA GETS HIS FIRST ORLANDO PIRATES START IN THE DSTV PREMIERSHIP

Otladisa finally broke into the starting line-up for the first time in the league after joining the Happy People from Marumo Gallants. The other start was in the CAF Champions League against Djabal Iconi of Comoros. He has been used as a substitute making eight appearances in all competitions.

Other changes in the team saw Nkosinathi Sibisi and Karim Kumvuidi start the match. They replaced the trio Thapelo Xoki, Vincent Pule and Relebohile Mofokeng.

ORLANDO PIRATES STRETCH THEIR WINNING RUN TO THREE MATCHES

The Bucs made it three victories in three. The win saw the Soweto giants climb up to third place on the log standings after amassing 25 points from 14 outings.

On the other end, Arrows’ vows continued as this was their fifth straight defeat in the league. To add, they’ve been shaky at the back letting in nine goals and they lack fire-power up front only netting three goals in the process. The defeat saw them remain seventh with 20 points after 14 league matches.

MELUSI BUTHELEZI FAILS TO KEEP A CLEANSHEET

Pirates keeper Melusi Buthelezi failed to keep a cleansheet after enjoying a good run in between the sticks. Ahead of the match, the Bafana Bafana international had kept eight cleansheets in his first 10 matches for the club in all competitions.

The last time Buthelezi had conceded a goal was on 1 November in a 2-1 loss against Cape Town Spurs in the league.
