AmaZulu FC suspend player for off-field misconduct

AmaZulu FC have become the latest DStv Premiership club to suspend their player following off-field misconduct.

Among players who have been handed suspensions by their clubs this season are Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs and Thembinkosi Lorch of Orlando Pirates.

The Buccaneers playmaker, Lorch recently returned to the field and played his first match after suspension this past weekend against Golden Arrows.

He had been stopped from taking part in all activities after he was sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended for five years for assaulting his girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Khune was recently placed on suspension and stripped of the captaincy by Chiefs after breaking the club’s code of conduct, arriving in Naturena under the influence of alcohol.

According to FARPost sources, AmaZulu decided to remove their left-back from all club activities for off-field misconduct. The club initiated an internal investigation into the matter and fined him an undisclosed amount of money. The 24-year-old left-footer is understood to have been away for almost a month.

LACK OF GAME TIME OVER THE PAST TWO SEASONS

Mabiliso has been struggling for game time since returning to the Durban-based side from Kaizer Chiefs last season. The Rustenburg-born defender has made only six appearances across all competitions.

He has only featured twice in the DStv Premiership this season. On both occasions, he came from the bench. He played his last game for the club on 28 October when Usuthu drew 1-1 with Chippa United. That game was played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Riaan Hanamub, one of the key figures for Usuthu offensively, keeps on cementing the left-back position. The Namibian has featured in all matches the club has played this season.

“From what I know and what the Team Manager says, the player is out injured,” said AmaZulu’s PRO Philani Ndlela.

“Since the passing of Bongi [Ntuli], he was given the time off and he only returned for one day and picked up a serious injury. You can also confirm with his agent Basia [Michaels], I think she has the same information as myself.” Mabiliso refused to comment when contacted by FARPost.
