Tinashe Nengomasha offers advice to Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa
Former Kaizer Chiefs hardman Tinashe Nengomasha has shared his thoughts on what Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa must focus on to shine at the club.
The ex-Chiefs hardman, Tinashe Nengomasha was exceptional in the defensive midfield role during the twelve he spent at the club.
While stressing the importance of the position at the Soweto giants, Nengomasha has offered advice to Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa.
Mthethwa was signed from Stellenbosch FC in the final days of the last transfer window to bolster the Chiefs’ midfield options.
For Amakhosi fans, the bulky midfielder was seen as the player to finally fill the void left by Willard Katsande, who left in 2021.
Katsande is one of the best defensive midfielders who graced Kaizer Chiefs and the DStv Premiership.
WHAT TINASHE NENGOMASHA TOLD ‘OX’ MTHETHWA
“What is most important for him is to help shield the team so that the team doesn’t concede,” Nengomasha told FARPost. “When the team is not conceding, then you know the defensive midfielder is doing exceptionally well.
“That is a very important position in that team. I know it because I was there. Before distributing the ball, he must ensure that the ball does not go behind him.
“He has to be a bully to bully that midfield area. He must be known for that. It’s a key position in the team. That is how we made names.
“To be tough and smart at the same time, being able to pass the ball to those who create.”
Mthethwa has only played a few DStv Premiership matches for the Glamour Boys. The 29-year-old is seen as a natural replacement for Willard Katsande by Chiefs’ insatiable fans.
In truth, a lot is expected from him, especially considering the club’s hunger to break their eight-season trophy drought. In addition, the midfielder has also become a valuable asset for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
There are high hopes that he will grab a coveted spot in Broos’ final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad.
