Gavin Hunt’s impression of youngster Campbell

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has revealed what he makes of the teenage sensation Shandre Campbell following his brace and assist against Orlando Pirates on Saturday evening.

SuperSport thrashed Pirates 3-1 in a DStv Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, with the 18-year-old being labelled a “hero” by football fanatics on the day.

This season, the talented left-winger has played 14 games across all competitions for Matsatsantsa. To add to that, he scored two goals and weighed in with three assists.

It goes without a doubt that the youngster is showing signs of growing in influence as a left-winger for Hunt’s side.

GAVIN HUNT ON SHANDRE CAMPBELL

“Well, he has got great attributes and he has got goals in him. He was the top goalscorer last season in the DStv Diski Challenge,” said Hunt when he was asked if Campbell is one of the best youngsters he has ever worked with.

“Again, we lost Maseko which is a huge blow for me. For me, Maseko was the biggest blower and I’m still crying about it.

“You know, we got young Campbell coming up. So, you know the club is built around that. It’s built around honesty, integrity, and hard work players.”

Hunt continued: “We might not have the best players but we got to build a team every year.

“We got 17 new players this season. It’s crazy man. But anyway I’m doing my best.”

Following their convincing win against the Buccaneers, SuperSport are in second position with 29 points after 15 games.

SuperSport United’s next league fixture will be against struggling Richards Bay away from home on Saturday, 30 December 2023.

The kick-off between the two sides is at 15:30 at King Zwelithini Stadium.
