What Rulani Mokwena found encouraging despite CT City draw

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed what impressed him despite a 0-0 draw against Cape Town City FC on Sunday in the DStv Premiership.

The two teams played an entertaining game of football, but it lacked goals as both sides were solid at the back and couldn’t convert their goalscoring opportunities.

The goalless stalemate saw the Citizens end Sundowns’ winning streak this season. Heading into the match, the Tshwane giants had a 100 per cent winning record as they were on a 11-match winning run.

RULANI MOKWENA SAYS HE WAS IMPRESSED BY THE TACTICAL BATTLE BETWEEN THE TWO TEAMS

The Soweto-born mentor says he was impressed by the tactical battle. The two teams performed to the best of their ability.

“They pressed well, we pressed well at times, they built up well, we built up well at times. I enjoyed those [tactical battles] just that they come at the wrong time of the year,” said Mokwena.

“There’s quite a lot on my mind and a lot of fatigue to the players. But we got to stay sharp, help the team and participate in the game.

“[Cape Town City], a good team and a very difficult team to play against. That’s why I’m proud of the group, we tried our best to win the game for sure.”

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FOR MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

It’s back to the drawing board for Mokwena and his troops. The Chloorkop-based side still have two matches to play before the end of the year.

They have played less league games this season [12], due to their commitments in continental football [CAF Champions League and African Football League].

They will face Moroka Swallows on December, 27th before locking horns against Polokwane City FC three days later on the 30th.
