Chiefs star selected for Mozambique’s AFCON final squad
Mozambique head Coach Chiquinho Conde has named his final 23-member squad for the upcoming 2023 CAF AFCON tournament, with Kaizer Chiefs star making the cut.
The AFCON tournament will be held in Ivory Coast in January next year.
The tournament will consist of 24 nations, and it will start from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
Mozambique are pitted in group B alongside Egypt, Ghana, and Cape Verde.
KAIZER CHIEFS DEFENDER SELECTED FOR AFCON TOURNAMENT
The player in question is none other than Edmilson Dove. The former Cape Town City man joined Amakhosi in August 2022 and he has been phenomenal for the Soweto giants.
This season, Dove has played nine games across all competitions despite his injury setback at the beginning of the campaign.
The 29-year-old centre-back will be expected to add value to the Mozambican side’s defending options.
Meanwhile, Elias Pelembe will captain Mozambique at 2023 AFCON at the age of 40.
Pelembe returned to his home soil after spending 16 seasons in the SA top-flight. The veteran midfielder is currently with UD Songo.
During his stay in South Africa, he played for SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Polokwane City, Royal AM, and Bidvest Wits.
This will be the second AFCON tournament for Pelembe and he will be hoping to lead his side with pride, and show that he still has something to offer.
