Middendorp labels Andile Mpisane’s appearance as comedy

Cape Town Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp has labelled Andile Mpisane’s appearance for Royal AM as comedy and embarrassing, jokingly suggesting that Bobby Motaung should also make an appearance for Kaizer Chiefs. Mpisane, who is also the club Chairman, made his full debut in the DStv Premiership against AmaZulu FC on Friday.

He was taken off during the halftime break and replaced by Sibusiso Magaqa. Royal AM coach John Maduka said after the match that he was happy with his progress and had to give him a chance to play. The 22-year-old barely makes the team and often cheers from the stands.

“The chairman, it was his first game to play, to start the game,” said Maduka.

“Game time is always difficult. He had some chances to play [previously], and we had to give him a chance to play,” added Maduka after the match.

WHY ANDILE MPISANE’S APPEARANCE IS LABELLED AS COMEDY

Middendorp was not necessarily asked to comment on Mpisane’s appearance but did mention it during his post-match interview with the media after the 2-0 loss to Cape Town City on Sunday.

“It’s embarrassing for the coaching what I have seen when AmaZulu were playing against Royal AM. It’s embarrassing,” he said.

“I think we have to expect Bobby [Motaung] to play his first game because he deserves it and he is so fit and he will play for 45 minutes for Kaizer Chiefs,” he jokingly said.

ERNST MIDDENDORP CRITICAL OF ROYAL AM COACH JOHN MADUKA

The German mentor was also critical of his counterpart John Maduka for justifying his Chairman’s selection.

“Guys, I feel really embarrassed as a coach and then you sit there and say ‘Because he was so fit’. Because he was so good at the training session [so] he deserves to play.

“Guys we have a portfolio of challenges so yeah I will not say a lot, we have enough challenges here. But what’s going on in the league is an orchestra of comics. You can quote me, yeah,” he said.
