Ex-SuperSport United star shares thoughts on Matsatsantsa’s squad depth

A former SuperSport United midfielder has shared his thoughts on the club’s squad depth in the current campaign.

Matsatsantsa brought experienced players to balance the team with the young and old, as they lost most of their key players to big teams in the league.

Patrick Maswanganyi, Thapelo Maseko, Jamie Webber, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe are some of the key players who have departed the club.

However, the Tshwane giants brought in the likes of Siyanda Xulu, Lyle Lakay, Ricardo Goss, Phathutshedzo Nange,  to mention a few.

Forward Etiosa Ighodaro is one of the players who joined Gavin Hunt’s side on a loan from cross-town arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. Ighodaro has been phenomenal for the side as he has scored seven goals in 22 appearances across all competitions.

HLOMPHO KEKANA ON SUPERSPORT UNITED SQUAD

In an interview with FARPost, the ex-SuperSport defensive midfielder Hlompho Kekana was quizzed about his former club’s squad additions at the beginning of the season.

“Well, I just know that players want to play football. Wherever he plays, he will want to make sure he enjoys his football,” said Kekana when asked what he makes of Ighodaro’s move to SuperSport.

“I wouldn’t want to talk much about that move because I don’t know much about it. But all I can say is, SuperSport this season they have signed quite a good group of players.”

The retired footballer said he’s happy that most of the SuperSport recruits joined the side on permanent deals which will yield fruitful results.

He believes that the players are suitable for Hunt’s style of play, hence they are currently doing fine in the DStv Premiership.

So far, Matsatsantsa sit third on the league table with 29 points, equal in points with second-placed Cape Town City. Both teams have played 16 matches in the SA elite league.

“And the players they have signed, really suit how they want to play. The fact that they have signed most of their players on permanent deals, and that would help them to compete even more,” he added.

“I love it when these teams come out to compete in the league. It gives the league so much fun.”
