Former Pirates captain Happy Jele issues update on his future 

Nearly half a year since his Royal AM journey concluded, former Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele has issued an update on his future.

The veteran defender has been without a club after cutting ties with the KwaZulu-Natal side on 30 June 2023.

Jele joined Thwihli Thwahla in February 2023 on a free transfer after his contract at Pirates was not renewed. The centre-back left the Soweto giants after 16 years of marriage. 

At Royal AM, Jele only managed to make four appearances across competitions in the 2022/23 campaign.

The 37-year-old has revealed his desire to play again in the SA top flight, as retiring is the last thing on his mind.

Jele feels he’s still got a lot to offer on the field of play, given his extensive experience of of the beautiful game, and won’t stop plotting his next move. 

“At this point and time, I’m still training on my own,” Jele told FARPost when asked if he had retired. 

“If any team is willing to acquire my services, I’m still available. But about retiring, I will let you know when the time is right.”

HAPPY JELE ON HIS LIFE OUTSIDE FOOTBALL 

The highly experienced defender also divulged how he’s adjusting to life outside football after so many years in the game. 

“I think so far is good. I’m trying to adjust on this outside football,” Jele told this publication. 

“It’s also teaching me how to deal with life when I decide to hang up my boots. So, it’s giving me channels to whatever I want to do.”

With the January transfer window already opened, it won’t be surprising to see Jele finding a new team in South Africa or outside the country.
