Agent on Thulani Hlatshwayo’s future at SuperSport United
Thulani Hlatshwayo’s agent has commented on the future of the defender at SuperSport United with less than six months left in his contract.
The former Bafana Bafana captain has been on the sidelines for some time due to an injury. Hlatshwayo underwent surgery last month after it was discovered that he had torn his ankle ligaments.
He last played in a CAF Confederation Cup match against USM Alger on 3 December last year.
‘Tyson’ joined SuperSport in 2022, signing a one-year deal and an option to extend for a further year. This was after the end of his two-season spell with Orlando Pirates.
Matsatsantsa triggered the one-year extension option when his contract came to an end last season. His contract is set to come to an end in June 2024.
Hlatshwayo’s representative Mike Ntombela says “there’s nothing to worry about” over the future of the 34-year-old at SuperSport. He’s hoping they will have discussions with the club “around February” when Hlatshwayo has recovered.
SUPERSPORT UNITED YET TO DISCUSS THULANI HLATSHWAYO’S FUTURE
“We’re just worried about his injury that he must recover, he’s in a good club and there’s nothing to worry about,” Ntombela told FARPost.
“The main worry is for him to recover and then the other one [contract issue] hasn’t even gotten into our heads, it’s still very early. We have so much respect for SuperSport.
“We’re not even thinking when [are they coming to us]. Maybe we can expect that after February and by then he should have recovered.”
OTHER RUNNING OUT CONTRACTS AT SUPERSPORT
According to Transfermarkt, Gamphani Lungu, Kegan Johannes, Mohamed Hamza and Washington Arubi will also be out of contracts at the end of the season. SuperSport have the option to extend Arubi’s contract for one more year.
Meanwhile, the future is still uncertain for the two Sundowns loanees Etiosa Ighodaro and Ricardo Goss whose loan contracts expire in June.
