JDR Stars snap up promising midfielder from Baroka FC

Motsepe Foundation Championship side JDR Stars have snapped up a promising midfielder from Baroka FC for the second round of the campaign.

JDR Stars have had an inconsistent start to the 2023/24 season after winning six games in the league, drawing six, and losing five times. They are currently sitting eighth on the log with 24 points in 17 matches played.

The Pretoria-based side is six points behind log leaders Orbit College who are on 30 points.

With Stars looking to push for automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership, they have snapped up a highly-rated midfielder from Baroka.

The Nditsheni Nemasisi-owned team has moved swiftly to sign the attacking midfielder Ntiyiso Bombi from Bakgakga. Bombi has featured in five games for Baroka in the current season.

In the previous season, the 23-year-old starlet made 19 appearances for the Limpopo-based side and scored five goals.

Bombi was in the books of Marumo Gallants’ DStv Diski Challenge side before moving to Baroka in January 2022.

“JDR Stars have beefed up their squad with Ntiyiso Bombi from Baroka on a two-year deal,” a source told FARPost.

“Bombi is a very promising talent and has all the qualities to make his mark at JDR Stars. So, Bombi is a player with good attacking qualities and he’ll definitely be a good signing.”

On the other hand, Baroka has been in impressive form since Dan Malesela took over the head coach role in October 2023.

The 2018 Telkom Knockout Cup champions are amongst the title-chasing teams in the Motsepe Foundation. They are sitting third on the log behind AmaTuks and Orbit College who are second and on top of the log, respectively.
