‘Thugs’ break into SAFA regional offices, steal important documents
One of the 52 SAFA regional offices has been broken into with important documents and a computer stolen as the battle for top positions intensified. The SAFA Capricorn Region in Limpopo has been embroiled in a leadership tussle for a while with some LFAs and clubs calling for regional president Jacky Mogashoa [Main Picture] to step down.
Some Regional Executive Committee Members who are now Mogashoa’s biggest rivals have been placed on suspension. This includes the region’s secretary Mosotho Malesela. Some members have also opened a police case of fraud against Mogashoa, an accusation which he continues to deny.
The region’s top six were recently summoned before the national membership committee in an effort to resolve the mayhem. However, the members are still waiting for the report from national membership affairs.
SAFA CAPRICORN EMBROILED IN BATTLE FOR TOP LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
On Monday, FARPost learnt that unknown suspects broke into the Polokwane premises in search of the documents. The documents which were stolen reportedly also contain information that could be used against some of the current leaders.
“We are still waiting for the forensic. But upon arrival when we did an inspection we found out that the back window was broken, which means that the person got access through the back,” the region’s president Mogashoa told FARPost.
“Surprisingly that person went to the Administrator’s Office where certain documents were stolen and no other thing. So it means this person was just looking for a particular document because that is the only thing stolen. Nothing else was stolen.”
This is the third time that ‘thugs’ have broken into the SAFA Capricorn office. Mogashoa says he also suspects that people who broke into the office are well known to them.
“A stranger cannot just come in and steal documents. They wouldn’t even know if there were documents or not. The thief took tangible things which will benefit him.”
REGIONS INHERITING DANNY JORDAAN AND RIA LEDWABA LEADERSHIP BATTLE?
Mogashoa reckons he is being targeted by Ria Ledwaba backers for supporting president Danny Jordaan at the national elections in 2022. Interestingly, Jordaan’s loyalists have also accused Mogashoa of actually voting for Ledwaba at the Sandton Convention Centre.
“This problem is long-rooted, if you remember it started with the elections. So others were supporting Mme Ria Ledwaba and even today they are still fighting for her. So they are still pursuing that it’s just that and nothing else.”
He also had this to say about the fraud case that was opened against him by some members of the REC. “They will continue to do fake things and go to the police and open fake cases. A case that did not have any substance that is why it was thrown out of the court.” However, according to our sources, a case is opened and waiting for the prosecutor’s analysis to prosecute.
With the next elections coming in February 2024, Mogashoa is likely to go head-to-head against his current vice presidents, Tomas Mulaudzi and Mosotho Malesela for the top position.
The region is the hub of football in Limpopo and is host to six PSL teams in both the DStv Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship.
