Maritzburg United reach termination agreement with midfielder

Maritzburg United and former Baroka FC midfielder have reached an agreement for the mutual termination of the player’s contract just two months after signing.

FARPost recently reported that the KZN side would likely have a mass squad clearout in the January PSL transfer window. This was after the club proposed salary reductions to the highest-paid players.

Most players weren’t willing to take the salary cuts and had stated they would rather leave the club.

The club’s hierarchy has been left with a slim hope for promotion back to the DStv Premiership after struggling to collect points in the first half of the season.

And the idea of salary reductions was to cut budgets going into the second round of the campaign. Meanwhile, the reports have also suggested that the Midlands side has been contemplating purchasing a top-flight status.

MARITZBURG UNITED AND BAYZEL GOLDSTONE MUTUALLY AGREE TO TERMINATE CONTRACT

FARPost has learnt that the Team of Choice has parted ways with Bayzel Goldstone who had signed for the club towards the end of October.

The exit of Goldstone comes as a surprise as the player has been featuring much for the club recently.

As previously reported, Maritzburg are also said to have told Judas Moseamedi to look for opportunities elsewhere, saying they weren’t affording to pay his salary.

Meanwhile, they recently welcomed a handful of trialists following the end of the first round. This includes Phumlani Ntshangase who was the captain of the club during his spell between 2019 and 2022.

The Midlands side didn’t have the start they were hoping for in their first season in the second-tier. Maritzburg have only picked five wins from 17 league matches, drawing five and losing seven.

They sit in the 11th position having accumulated 20 points. They are four points ahead of the 16th-placed Venda Academy and ten points behind log leaders Orbit College.
