Phumlani Ntshangase training at former club

Phumlani Ntshangase has been training with one of his former clubs as he continues to search for a new home.

The 29-year-old has been unattached for more than six months following his departure from the Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Baroka FC in April during the 2022/23 season

He was in rehabilitation for the remainder of the campaign having left the Limpopo club with an injury.

Ntshangase tried his luck at Maritzburg United during the pre-season and featured in the KZN Premier’s Cup where he was impressive against the likes of AmaZulu FC in the tournament.

He was later invited by AmaZulu in August as the side was looking for a holding midfielder ahead of the start of the season. Things were promising for him at Usuthu with the coach Pablo Franco Martin impressed and even said, “We are really thinking of him as an option.”

However, he left the Durban-based side and was thereafter, linked to DStv Premiership rookies Cape Town Spurs.

PHUMLANI NTSHANGASE RETURNS TO TRAINING WITH MARITZBURG UNITED

Ntshangase is now back at Maritzburg, training with them as they look to make reinforcements ahead of the start of the second round of the 2023/24 campaign, the player’s agent Sizwe Ntshangase confirmed to FARPost.

Should the club sign him, Ntshangase would bring a huge pedigree to the club having had a successful spell with Bidvest Wits.

He was part of the Clever Boys squad that made history, winning the league, formerly known as ABSA Premiership in 2016 and the Telkom Knockout Cup [Now Carling Knockout] in 2017. This was before he joined SuperSport United on loan.

He also played in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where SA under-23 were pitted against Brazil, Denmark and Iraq

Ntshangase played for Maritzburg between 2019 and 2022 and was, at some point, the captain of the club.

According to the sources, he isn’t the only new face at the club with Maritzburg having invited a number of players for an assessment for Simo Dladla to have a closer look at them while it’s the AFCON break.
