Sekhukhune United star attracts interest from PSL top club
A PSL top club has shown an interest in signing Sekhukhune United midfielder Elias Mokwana during this January window transfer.
Over the past few weeks, the media has sparked a whirlwind of speculation, weaving connections between clubs and players, with Mokwana having been linked with a move to the Orlando Pirates.
Mokwana burst onto the scene at the Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Platinum City Rovers, two seasons ago.
The pacy winger has been in exceptional form at the Limpopo club and has been considered one of the best players in the DStv Premiership since joining Sekhukhune United last season.
Overall, the 24-year-old star has scored four goals and assisted six times in 48 games in all competitions for Sekhukhune.
He has emerged as one of the most exciting players, with his performances earning him a call-up to Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad recently.
Though he couldn’t make it to Broos’ final 23-man squad for the upcoming AFCON finals in Ivory Coast, Mokwana has been placed on standby with Tapelo Xoki, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Iqraam Rayners.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SHOW INTEREST IN ELIAS MOKWANA
Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly been holding a strong interest in acquiring Mokwana’s signature this January, according to FARPost sources.
Despite the Buccaneers being the front-runners for his signature, Sundowns are plotting a move for the Babina Noko star as the club looks to strengthen their attacking force.
“I know Pirates have been pushing too hard for Mokwana’s signature. But Sundowns have shown an interest. They want him,” a close source to the player told FARPost.
“Now, the problem is that his club asks for too much money, and Sundowns feel the price is too much to ask for a player like him.”
The informant indicated that Sekhukhune requested an approximate fee of R20 million for the player, but Sundowns felt the amount was too much for a player of his calibre.
Moreover, reports have also indicated that Sekhukhune have put a price tag of R35 million for Mokwana’s signature.
This publication understands that Sekhukhune are keen to tie the winger down to a new deal provided that the potential suitors, Pirates and Sundowns, do not act swiftly.
