Agent reveals why Zim’s number one Matsatsantsa’s deal is stalling

Agent Gibson Mahachi has revealed why Zimbabwe’s number one goalkeeper, Donovan Bernard is yet to complete his SuperSport United move.

Having already extended his contract with Chicken Inn FC of Zimbabwe, it emerged that SuperSport United are willing to buy the goalminder.

The Bulawayo side offered him a new two-year contract ahead of the coming season, which starts next month. Donovan Bernard, Zimbabwe’s number-one goalkeeper, was among the most reliable goalkeepers in Zimbabwe’s PSL.

Bernard gave a glimpse of what he has to offer during the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He guarded Zimbabwe’s goal area when they played Rwanda and Nigeria. Both matches ended in draws, as he conceded one goal against Nigeria.

And the 28-year-old is being viewed as a suitable and long-term solution to Gavin Hunt‘s goalkeeping worries.

The Pretoria-based side hopes to reinforce their goalkeeping department, which has the experienced pair of Ricardo Goss and Washington Arubi.

In addition, Polokwane City FC were also aiming to sign the shot-stopper, but they have since fallen by the wayside in the race.

WHY ZIMBABWE’S NUMBER-ONE IS YET COMPLETE HIS SUPERSPORT UNITED MOVE

Bernard’s agent, Gibson Mahachi, revealed to FARPost why nothing has yet to materialize between the two parties. “Talks have stalled. We are waiting for feedback, but it has taken longer than we expected,” he said.

“Of course, they expressed serious interest in him, saying they can meet what his club [Chicken Inn FC] want for the player.

“This is because we renewed his contract late last year. And at this point, they are the only club [SuperSport United] remaining in the race to sign the player.”

Last year, Bernard came close to joining Tshakuma Tsha Madzivandila but nothing eventually materialized. And he was forced to return to Zimbabwe.
