Burnley FC coach Kompany reveals Lyle Foster’s recovery plan

Burnley FC coach Vincent Kompany has revealed Lyle Foster’s recovery plan as the striker continues his progress towards “living a normal life”.

Following a leave of absence for some personal health matters in October 2023, Foster is back and contributing to the team.

He missed seven English Premier League matches and two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Bafana Bafana, while prioritising his mental health mental health.

To add, the mental health issues cost the 23-year-old an opportunity to represent his nation at the 2023 AFCON to be hosted in Ivory Coast in two days time.

This has spark a debate after Kompany said Foster is not ready to play at a such big stage, but he’s playing week in, week out for The Clarets.

Vincent Kompany says Foster is responding well on his road to recovery and he will be 100 per cent soon.

“It started with day one, with a three or four-week plan. Now he’s got an eight-week plan I think going forward. He’s still being closely monitored,” said Kompany.

“You have to look at it like an injury a little bit, a return from injury. Every positive sign we’ve wanted to see, we’ve seen.

“Everything he’s had to do, he’s done brilliantly. Now we just have to keep him on that path.

“He’s still getting day-to-day follow-up treatment until a point where the goal is to have him live a normal life. But he will get there.”

Foster is inline to feature when Burnley host Premier League newcomers Luton Town FC on Friday evening at Turf Moor Stadium. Kickoff is at 9:30pm.

The goalpoacher will be aiming to continue from where he left off against Aston Villa last time out as he netted his fourth goal of the season in a 3-2 defeat.
