PSL club welcomes Augustine Mahlonoko for assessment

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Augustine Mahlonoko has been invited by a PSL side for assessment having been clubless since last month.

As first reported by this website, the 22-year-old parted ways with the Motsepe Foundation Championship club La Masia in December. The two parties agreed to mutual termination of the contract.

According to the sources, the player requested to be released to seek regular game time elsewhere. He started three times for the Daine Klate-mentored side this season when they played Hungry Lions, Marumo Gallants and Venda Football Club.

He last played for his previous club on 6 October in a league match against Hungry Lions.

The Pirates academy graduate had signed for La Masia in July 2022 after his exit from Baroka FC.

Mahlonoko has been trying to revive his career in the Motsepe Foundation Championship having left the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates in 2020.

He was tipped as the next big thing after graduating from the Buccaneers reserve side. He was promoted to the first team in 2018 after a successful run with the youth side where he used to be a skipper.

However, he only made three appearances for the Sea Robbers senior side, playing only 11 minutes. Thereafter, he joined Baroka FC before the side suffered relegation to the second-tier.

He also had a loan spell with Pretoria Callies between 2021 and 2022.
