Thabo Senong outlines his target with Singida Fountain Gate

Singida Fountain Gate coach Thabo Senong has outlined his team’s target for the remainder of the 2023/24 Tanzanian Premier League season.

After stints as an assistant to Ernst Middendorp and Ricardo Ferreira respectively, Senong finally landed the head coach role at the club a while ago.

Halfway through the season, the former Sekhukhune United Head of Development has lifted the team to fifth place. They have amassed 20 points from 14 matches. To add, on Wednesday they were knocked out of the Mapinduzi Cup by Simba SC after losing 3-2 on penalties. The match had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Senong has his sights set on the top. He wants to lead the club to a better finish than last season in the top three. This will in-turn benefit the team to play in a CAF competition next season.

This season they were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup in the second preliminary round by Modern Future of Egypt.

“Second round, it will be very tough, but we should be able to reach our target,” Senong told FARPost.

“When I arrived in September 2023 as an assistant under Ernst Midderndorp, the team was lying number 10. Now we are fifth with the same points as number four.

“We’re certain we can achieve our target of CAF competition, that’s our target, become number three, number four. But it’s not easy in this league because there are other extremely competitive teams.”

Senong further highlighted some positives which he believes will make the team achieve their target.

“We’ll have to go with it, I’m sure with how they’ve been responding to the technical ideas. How they’ve been co-operating with my way of coaching, how everyone around the club is set to make sure I lead this project, I have no doubt that we can we can actually reach our target.”

“What we’ve built with the team, we’ve given the players an idea how to play football. How to apply themselves during transitions, during the defending phase and during set-pieces.

“So there’s been a lot of progress in a lot of individuals and there’s a lot of progress in our team,” he added.
