Zambia vice-captain analyses potential impact of PSL players at AFCON

Zambia vice-captain Rodrick Kabwe has analysed the potential impact of the PSL players at the 2023 CAF AFCON tournament, claiming that SA’s top-flight is the best league in Africa.

To add to that, the DStv Premiership teammates will become rivals, and the league rivals will become teammates in Ivory Coast.

The AFCON tournament will run from Saturday, 13 January, to Sunday, 11 February 2024. The tournament will consist of 24 nations.

CHIPOLOPOLO’S KABWE TIPS PSL STARS FOR AFCON SUCCESS

The former Sekhukhune United and Black Leopards player Rodrick Kabwe, who is currently with Chipolopolo for the AFCON competition has had his say on the impact that PSL players would bring at the tournament.

“The impact is massive. It’s not by the flock that South African football is considered one of the best leagues in Africa,” the Zambian vice-captain told FARPost

“You can see a lot of African nations at least have a player that plays in the South African league. So, it tells you something when you look at the league itself.

“The impact of the players that are playing in the PSL into this year’s AFCON would be great. People will start noticing the league itself. And that is something that people need to consider as one of those well-organised leagues in Africa.”

Kabwe continued: “It has produced good players going to the tournament. The likes of Peter Shalulile for Namibia, Rally Bwalya for Zambia, and Stanley Nwabili of Nigeria. Themba Zwane, Aubrey Modiba, Nyiko Mobbie, Khuliso Mudau, you know those are some of the good players that I’m mentioning.

“But, there are a lot of good players that play in the South African league that are going to play in the AFCON. And looking at the quality of the players is massive. These are not just players that are going there to add numbers. But they are playing for their respective national teams.”
