Zambia vice-captain sheds light on Daka’s crucial role in Chipolopolo squad

Zambia vice-captain Rodrick Kabwe has revealed the importance of having Leicester City star Patson Daka in the Chipolopolo squad ahead of the 2023 CAF AFCON tournament.

The AFCON competition will kick off on Saturday, 13 January to Sunday, 11 February 2024, with the tournament consisting of 24 nations.

Zambia are pitted in Group F alongside DR Congo, Morocco, and Tanzania.

Daka’s stellar displays in Leicester City’s colours have also helped him to become an inspiration to many young lads in his country.

On Tuesday, 09 January, Daka was on the scoresheet when Zambia played to a 1-1 draw with Cameroon in their training match in Saudi Arabia.

Daka has been prolific since joining Leicester City from RB Salzburg in July 2021, scoring 19 goals from 82 games across all competitions.

ZAMBIA VICE-CAPTAIN RODRICK KABWE ON PATSON DAKA’S INFLUENCE

Kabwe reckons that Daka’s presence in the Chipolopolo squad has a “massive influence” in shaping the Zambian team ahead of the much-awaited AFCON competition.

“Massive impact that boy has for the team. Of course, he’s still a young boy, but his influence on the team is something else,” Kabwe told FARPost

“For me, he’s one of those players that you cannot right off. I don’t know how I could describe him better. He has a massive influence on the team as young as he is.

“I’m not saying this just because he’s playing for Leicester City, but his personality and the way he works.”

Kabwe continued: “The way he’s free and easy to relate with any player in the team is just something that makes him unique. So, for me, he’s such an important player for the team.

“I just hope that everything that he does behind the scenes, the world will be able to see when we get at the AFCON.”
