Khuliso Mudau on what could be key for Bafana’s success at AFCON

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau has revealed what could be key for Bafana Bafana’s success at the 2023 CAF AFCON tournament.

24 of Africa’s finest will go head-to-head in the AFCON tournament scheduled to run from today to 11 February 2024.

Hugo Broos‘ charges arrived safely in Korhogo, Ivory Coast on Thursday, 11 January. Bafana are pitted in Group E alongside Tunisia, Mali, and neighbours Namibia.

Mudau was part of the Sundowns squad that won the historic inaugural African Football League title last year.

The star defender also believes that the experience of players like Percy Tau, who not only boasts continental experience but recently won a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup with Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly will make a difference.

KHULISO MUDAU BELIEVES CONTINENTAL EXPERIENCE WILL COME IN HANDY

The 28-year-old footballer reckons that continental experience will be vital to help Bafana to relive their 1996 success.

“It won’t be an easy group to get out of, but I think we have quality in the squad with players who are young and hungry. We want to make sure that we write history together,” Mudau told the CAF media department.

“I think it will help us a lot to have players who play in the Champions League. You can’t compare it with the local league because the intensity is not the same. So I think it’s going to help us a lot.

“We have been playing together for quite a while now as a team and I am just grateful to be here and want to showcase my talent.”

KHULISO MUDAU LAUDS HUGO BROOS’ EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE

The talented right-back also lauded his mentor’s extensive experience of the beautiful game ahead of the much-awaited AFCON competition.

Broos, who guided Cameroon to AFCON triumph back in 2017, will be expected to do the same with Bafana this year.

“He is very important. He is a very good coach. An experienced coach and I believe if we can apply exactly what he wants us to apply, we can make it” added Mudau.
