AmaZulu FC part ways with former Chiefs defender

AmaZulu FC have parted ways with a former Kaizer Chiefs defender ahead of the DStv Premiership second round.

Usuthu confirmed the news on Monday, 15 January 2024. Both parties decided to part company on a mutual agreement.

AmaZulu announced that they have cut ties with defender Sibusiso Mabiliso. The player only managed to make two appearances for AmaZulu this campaign.

The 24-year-old footballer returned to the KwaZulu-Natal side in August 2022 from Amakhosi, where he spent a session.

“We are grateful for the incredible journey on and off the field with Sibusiso Mabiliso,” read the club’s statement. “After thoughtful discussions and mutual consent, we’ve decided to part ways. Thank you for the unforgettable moments, and we wish you all the success in your next chapter.”

Meanwhile, the defender expressed his gratitude to the club for granting him an opportunity to showcase his God-given talent.

“I would like to thank the AmaZulu FC President, the Management, my teammates, the coaching staff, and the supporters for welcoming me back with open arms at Usuthu,” said Mabiliso.

“I am very grateful for everything and the experience. Wishing the team all the best for the remainder of the season.”

Mabiliso was recently suspended by the club for off-field misconduct.

The former Chiefs player is the second defender to leave the side. Last week, AmaZulu announced that they let go of ex-SA U23 captain Tercious Malepe.

However, earlier today, the KZN outfit announced the arrival of a Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Sifiso Ngobeni, on a six-month loan deal.

Ngobeni is the first signing of Usuthu in this January transfer window period.

AmaZulu will return to action on Tuesday, 13 February 2024, against Stellenbosch FC, away from home. The DStv Premiership clash will start at 19:30.
