Black Leopards coach provides update on January transfer window plan

Black Leopards coach Solly Luvhengo has provided an update on the club’s plans for the January transfer window.

Leopards are currently preparing for the resumption of the second round of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Venda-based side has had an inconsistent start to the 2023/24 campaign as they lie ninth on the league table with 23 points.

Leopards won seven games in the league, drew two, and lost on eight occasions in 17 matches played. Lidoda Duvha returned to the NFD at the start of the season after being relegated to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season. Leopards made the return to the second tie after buying the status of All-Stars.

The David Thidiela-owned side started the season with former Real Madrid youth coach Alejandro Dorado at the coaching helm. The Spanish mentor was fired a few months after taking the job, and he was replaced by Luvhengo.

With Leopards still within touching distance to gain promotion to the DStv Premiership next season, Luvhengo has opened up on plans for the January transfer window.

The Thohoyandou-based side is seven points away from log leaders Orbit College, who are on 30 points.

BLACK LEOPARDS WELCOME THREE PLAYERS ON TRIAL

“Look we are already back and working hard at training for the second round of the season,” Luvhengo told FARPost.

“We want to start very positively and make sure that we start collecting as many points as we can. We know that we didn’t start the season very well, but we can still change that. So, in this transfer window, we have three players who are on trials at the club, and we are looking to beef up key positions. At this point, I can’t tell you who are the players we are assessing.

“It’s too early to comment on anything. We don’t want to comment on players that are not contracted to Leopards.”

Meanwhile, this publication reported a few days ago that Leopards is on the brink of signing one of Eswatini’s midfielders, Philani Mkhontfo.
