Richard Ofori’s honest admission about Ghana’s AFCON fate

Orlando Pirates and Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori has made an honest admission about the Black Stars’ 2023 AFCON fate in Ivory Coast.

After settling for a thrilling 2-2 draw against Egypt on Thursday night, the Black Stars remained at the bottom of Group B with one point.

And the Ghana goalie Richard Ofori has admitted that the 2023 AFCON fate is no longer entirely in their hands. Both of these nations, Ghana and Egypt, are disappointed so far after failing to win in their first two matches.

Egypt will have to take on group leaders Cape Verde in their final game of the round, possibly without Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah due to injury.

Ghana desperately needs to beat Edmilson Dove‘s Mozambique if they are to have any hope of staying in the tournament.

“We stood up and made sure that we did our job irrespective of Salah [Mohamed] being injured or not,” said Ofori. “So we did not want him to get injured because he is important in the game. He makes the game exciting.

“What happened was because we had better control of our performance, but what will happen at the end of the day and in the next game, only God knows.

“As a team, we need to take positives from this performance and make our country proud. We gave everything, but unfortunately, we didn’t win.”

In the other Group B match, Cape Verde and Mozambique are pencilled to clash on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus was the hero of the show against Egypt with two goals for the Black Stars. But they were unable to defend their lead, leaving them with just one point on their tally from their two games so far.

Egypt, who drew with Mozambique in their first game, suffered a major blow when Salah was injured. And they were deprived of maximum points again.
