Coach suspended at AFCON for making accusations against CAF

A national team head coach has been suspended at the AFCON in Ivory Coast for making serious accusations about CAF and one of their federations.

The 34th edition of the biennial continental showpiece entered its seventh day on Friday with some exciting football action.

But it seems there has also been controversy off the pitch with news that the Confederation of African Football [CAF] has suspended Tanzania head coach Adel Amrouche.

Tanzania, who are making their third appearance in the tournament, are in Group F alongside Zambia, DR Congo and Morocco. They currently sit at the bottom of the group after losing 3-0 against Morocco in their opening match.

MOROCCO FC ACCUSED OF RUNNING CAF AFFAIRS

Before the match was played on Wednesday, Amrouche made some interesting comments during an interview on Algerian TV about CAF and Morocco.

He accused Morocco of having too much power in African football and influencing the appointment of referees.

“The Morocco federation is a proven power in the world of African football. Morocco manages African football. They also choose their referees, and we remain simple spectators,” he said.

But the interview, which created controversy, resulted in Amrouche being handed an eight-match suspension by CAF. This follows a complaint submitted by Morocco.

TANZANIA COACH ADEL AMROUCHE SUSPENDED AT AFCON 2023

Besides CAF not having issued an official statement as yet, the Tanzanian FA announced that they have, in the meantime, appointed Hemed Morocco as the interim coach.

“In another step, the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has suspended coach Amrouche. As a result of that decision, Hemed Morocco has been appointed acting coach, and he will be assisted by Juma Mgunda,” they made the announcement on Friday.

Tanzania will be back in action when they take on Zambia in a second group stage match on Sunday.
