Shalulile’s promise to Namibia coach ahead of Bafana showdown

Korhogo, Côte d’Ivoire – After a thrilling 1-0 win over Tunisia in their AFCON opener, Namibia’s star striker Peter Shalulile has made a promise to his coach Collin Benjamin.

Shalulile captained the Brave Warriors as they got off to a stellar start against Tunisia on Tuesday. A Dion Hotto header saw South Africa’s neighbours pick their first win in the AFCON as they emerged 1-0 victors.

The Mamelodi Sundowns forward has acknowledged missed opportunities but made a promise to his coach.

The two sides clash in a Southern African derby on Sunday night [10pm] at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo.

WHAT IS THE PROMISE SHALULILE MADE TO HIS COACH?

“It wasn’t easy [to beat Tunisia],” Shalulile confessed. “You saw Tunisia had some chances, the [Namibia] keeper made some great saves, and we had a few ourselves. It’s always frustrating to miss, especially as a striker who needs to score goals.”

The DStv Premiership top scorer reflected on the missed opportunities, understanding the importance of clinical finishing in such tight encounters. “On another day, if you don’t take your chances, you get punished,” he stated.

“That’s why I told the coach I’ll definitely work on my finishing. I’m not satisfied with missing today, but I’m grateful for the point and the team’s effort.”

Despite the missed chances, Shalulile remained upbeat that he will take his chances when they face Bafana.

With Shalulile focused on sharpening his finishing touch and the Brave Warriors brimming with belief, their clash against South Africa promises to be a fiery affair.

Besides ‘Shasha’, Benjamin also has Orlando Pirates’ winger Hotto, Black Leopards’ Bethuel Muzeu and Prins Tjiueza, who turns out for KF Liria Prizren of Kosovo.
