Sundowns’ decision on on-loan goalie Ricardo Goss revealed
Mamelodi Sundowns have made a decision on their on-loan goalkeeper Ricardo Goss who has been at SuperSport United since last season.
He arrived on a two-year loan deal from the Brazilians, touted to replace Ronwen Williams who had gone the opposite way.
He has played more than 40 matches for Matsatsantsa, conceding 41 goals and producing 15 clean sheets. He has also become a regular in the Bafana Bafana squad under Hugo Broos.
SUNDOWNS’ REFUSAL TO PROLONG GOSS’ LOAN STAY
SuperSport CEO Stanley Matthews has revealed that they tried to have talks with Sundowns in order to keep Goss. However, the Brazilians indicated they wanted him back at Chloorkop.
He says the 29-year-old will return to Bafana Ba Style in June as agreed between the parties.
“I’ve tried [to have talks with Sundowns] but they indicated that he has to go back,” Matthews told FARPost.
“So, it’s out of my hands and I must respect what Sundowns want. We signed a two-year deal and I must respect what they want to do.
“If they want to take Ricardo back, then he’s their player and I have to move on and find another option. He’s been a great addition to the team. He’s the reason why we finished in position three last year.
“And I think it’s been great for him to be in the Bafana Bafana mix, competing with Ronwen [Williams] but now he’ll compete with him at club level. And I need to move on.”
‘WE’VE STARTED THE SEARCH’
Matthews went on to divulge that SuperSport are currently in search of the goalkeeper who will replace Goss.
“We’ve already started the search, there’s three, four goalies already that we have assessed and we’re looking at more goalies next week as well,” he added.
