Ditlhokwe sends stern warning to Kaizer Chiefs critics

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has sent a stern warning to the club’s critics ahead of the second round of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Amakhosi have had an inconsistent start to the first half of the season and already missed out on two domestic trophies. Chiefs were knocked out of the MTN8 by Mamelodi Sundowns early in the campaign.

Chiefs also lost in the first round of the inaugural Carling Knockout Cup against AmaZulu FC. The defeat against AmaZulu prompted the Chiefs’ management to sack head coach Molefi Ntseki.

Cavin Johnson took over the coaching position at Chiefs on an interim basis to replace the discarded Ntseki.

The Soweto giants are sitting sixth on the Premiership log with 24 points after 16 matches played. They won seven games, drew three times and lost on six occasions.

Meanwhile, Ditlhokwe, who joined Chiefs from SuperSport United in the off-season, has warned the critics against writing off the Naturena-based outfit.

THATAYAONE DITLHOKWE OPTIMISTIC CHIEFS CAN WIN THE NEDBANK CUP

“We’ve been talking about consistency and talking about the good performance displayed towards the end of [the first round] of the league,” Ditlhokwe said.

“When the league started, I had an interview and told you guys [the media] that this is a process. We are patient about it, and we know it’s not yet over.

“It’s all about us now as players to keep the focus until the end of the league. It’s up to us as players to continue with that momentum. But I can assure you not to count us out.”

Chiefs have been drawn against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford FC in the 2024 Nedbank Cup Last 32.

The Glamour Boys will be looking to walk away with the Nedbank Cup honours for the first time since winning the trophy in 2013 against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.
