Nkanyiso Zungu resurfaces at PSL club
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu has resurfaced at the PSL club as he continues to search for a new home.
The 27-year-old has been without a club since July last year when he parted ways with the Buccaneers.
He spent the last six months of the previous season on loan at Richards Bay FC. When he returned to the parent club, Pirates, in June, they didn’t extend his contract when it expired.
Thereafter, Zungu trained with Royal AM before the start of the current season. However, he couldn’t be signed since Thwihli Thwahla were slapped with a FIFA transfer ban.
This was after they didn’t pay the money owed to their former striker Samir Nurkovic. They were ordered to pay an amount in the region of R12 million for the ban to be lifted.
Zungu went on to train with AmaZulu in September, hoping to impress Pablo Franco Martin. However, it took Usuthu less than a week to make a decision on the left-footer, letting him go after a brief assessment.
NKANYISO ZUNGU STARTED TRAINING WITH MARITZBURG LAST WEEK
FARPost understands Zungu started training with Maritzburg United intending to make an impression ahead of the start of the second round.
With the Team of Choice having had an inconsistent start to their first season in the second-tier, they will be looking to make reinforcements before the second part of the campaign starts.
Phumlani Ntshangase, who was also training with Maritzburg, has reportedly stopped.
Meanwhile, a mass exodus was said to be looming in Pietermaritzburg with a number of players linked with the exit door. This was due to salary reductions as some players weren’t willing to agree to it. However, it seems like all players are still part of the club.
Maritzburg will return to action after the AFCON when they take on Casric Stars away on 13 February.
