How Nyasha Mushekwi has made impact at his former Zim club

After buying a luxury team bus for his former team in Zimbabwe, ex-Mamelodi Sundowns striker Nyasha Mushekwi continued with his good deeds for the club.

In 2019, the China-based striker did the unthinkable when he gifted Caps United with a top-of-the-range luxury team bus. At that time, the Harare-based club relied on a 32-seater mini-bus for travelling to league matches.

The gangly forward left Caps United in July 2010 when he moved to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership. He also had a brief spell in Europe before moving to Zhejiang FC in China.

However his compassion for the club has continued almost 14 years after leaving them. The 36-year-old recently donated equipment, including soccer boots, socks and sneakers worth R480 000, to the team.

And he took the time to share some words of encouragement to his former club’s current crop of players.

“I’m glad that I have been able to help out. Opportunities come to the one who is prepared,” he said.

“It’s difficult. I know the situation here back home [Zimbabwe] is not so easy. There are many challenges. But as a player, you have to be prepared. You have to work hard. Don’t do it for the team.

“If the team is not satisfying you, do it for yourself because you don’t know who might be watching you play.

“You don’t know what God is planning for you, so you just need to keep your head up. Stay humble, work as hard as you can. Push your body to the extremes until you realise your full potential.”

Mushekwi added:” I believe that, not only here at Caps United, but the whole of the Zimbabwe league, there is so much talent that can even surpass most of these so-called other big countries in Africa.

“Sometimes we lose our focus because of these situations, and we end up giving up. Let’s not give up. Let’s keep pushing until we realise our dreams.”
