Peter Shalulile opens up on his dry spell at AFCON
Top Mamelodi Sundowns and Namibia marksman Peter Shalulile has opened up on his struggle to score at the ongoing 2023 AFCON finals.
The 30-year-old striker is yet to find the back of the net for his country, Namibia, in Group E of the coveted competition.
This is despite getting several scoring opportunities in areas he usually converts with ease in all the PSL competitions. So far, the Brave Warriors of Namibia played two matches [against Tunisia and Bafana Bafana] in which they scored one goal.
Their solitary goal came from Orlando Pirates man Deon Hotto, powering them to a historic win as they shocked giants Tunisia.
Namibia went on to suffer a massive 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bafana Bafana on Sunday night. At the moment, they are bracing for their final and decisive group phase match against Mali on Wednesday evening.
With three points on their tally, a win over The Eagles of Mali will see them qualify for the round of 16.
WHAT SHALULILE SAID ABOUT HIS DRY SPELL AT AFCON
And the highly-rated Namibia marksman Peter Shalulile has opened up on his struggle to score at the 2023 AFCON.
“First of all, it’s not only about me,” said the Namibia captain. “We are a team whereby everyone can score goals. As a striker, you always want to score goals because that’s the thing why you are brought in by the coach, to score goals.
“And make sure the team wins, even if not today, not tomorrow, but eventually goals will come. It’s a phase that will pass.
“Even the best in Europe all go through this, but they eventually come back and score those goals. As for strikers, it’s just a moment whereby you have to go through. It’s everywhere, it’s in life. You have to deal with it until everything opens up and goals come,” added Shalulile.
Locally, the Mamelodi Sundowns striker has given opponents sleepless nights with his conversion rate and precision.
This season, he has scored four goals in the DStv Premiership, three behind Khanyisa Mayo and Bradley Grobler of Cape Town City and SuperSport United, respectively. He also has two assists to his name.
