Latest update on Pirates’ out-of-favour attacker Marou

With the transfer window closing on the 26th of January 2024 at midnight, there’s an update on the Orlando Pirates’ out-of-favour attacker Souaibou Marou.

The Buccaneers have been busy in the transfer window as they prepare for the second round of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Pirates announced the departure of Bienvenu Eva Nga who struggled for game time since signing from Chippa United in June 2022. During his time at Pirates, Nga made 17 appearances in all competitions and scored only one goal.

Meanwhile, they confirmed the signing of Thabiso Lebitso and Thalente Mbatha while also bringing Tshegofatso Mabasa back from loan at Moroka Swallows.

Lebitso was snapped up by Pirates on a free transfer after parting ways with Chippa whereas Mbatha joins the Ghosts from SuperSport United.

SOUAIBOU MAROU SET TO STAY PUT AT ORLANDO PIRATES

This publication understands that out-of-favour Pirates striker Souaibou Marou will stay with the club despite his agent Mike Makaab revealing that will leave during the current January transfer window.

Marou has found the going tough at Pirates since he signed from Coton Sport in the middle of last season. The Cameroonian only featured once for the Soweto giants this season against Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League.

In his first season with the Buccaneers, Marou featured in five matches and he’s yet to find the back of the net in an official match.

“Souaibou Marou is going to be staying with Pirates for now. I know there was talks of him moving in this transfer window but the look away from the club looks unlikely at this point,” a source close to the player said.

“He will get the last opportunity to try and fight for his position in the starting line-up before making the final decision.”
