Mamelodi Sundowns make decision on Gift Motupa

DStv Premiership reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns have finally made a decision on the future of striker Gift Motupa.

The 29-year-old has been in the wilderness for a while after struggling to make game time since joining the Tshwane giants.

Motupa has not featured in the current season at Sundowns and was training with the club’s SAFA Gauteng ABC Motsepe League feeder side, M Tigers.

In a short statement on Friday, Sundowns said their goodbyes to the striker after three-and-half seasons at the club.

“Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with Gift Motupa. Thank you for your service to the club, and we wish you all the best.”

Motupa joined Masandawana from now-defunct Bidvest Wits in 2020. He has also played for clubs such as Orlando Pirates and Baroka FC.

WHERE TO FOR MOTUPA AS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS MAKE A DECISION

FARPost reached out to Motupa regarding his possible destination, but his phone rang unanswered.

He spent two seasons at the Buccaneers between 2015 and 2017 scoring just two goals. Motupa is also a joint all-time top scorer at Baroka FC alongside Thabiso Kutumela with 28 goals.

Meanwhile, Masandawana have been busy in the current transfer window period. They have already announced two signings with midfielder Matías Esquivel joining from Argentine club Atlético Lanús on a four-and-a-half-year deal. Defender Zuko Mdunyelwa has also joined from Chippa United.

They recently returned to their mid-season training camp despite missing several stars who are currently in Ivory Coast for the AFCON. Their first DStv Premiership match when league action resumes will be an away encounter at Golden Arrows on 14 February.

They are currently top of the log with 35 points from 13 matches with no loss so far.
