DR Congo club appoints former PSL coach Luc Eymael
Former Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael has been appointed as the head coach of the DR Congo club.
Eymael made history in South Africa, clinching the Nedbank Cup 2018, beating the then-high-flying Maritzburg United. Fadlu Davids was sitting on the other bench, guiding the Team of Choice.
He parted ways with the Ea Lla Koto in November of the same year when things started to go south. The Belgian tactician decided to tender his resignation after a one-and-half-year stay at the club.
He went on to have a brief spell with El Geish in the Egyptian Premier League before he returned to South Africa.
He was named the head coach of Black Leopards in September 2019 when Lidoda Duvha was still in the top-flight. However, he resigned again after three months into the job citing “personal reasons”.
Thereafter, he went on to coach Young Africans, Stade Tunisian and Al-Ettihad Al-Misraty Club. The 64-year-old last had a job in December 2022.
LUC EYMAEL APPOINTED BY AIGLES DU CONGO OF DR CONGO
According to a FARPost source, Eymael is no longer on the market as he has been given the head coach role by Aigles du Congo. The Belgian coach will be in charge until the end of the season.
Aigles are based in Kinshasa and ply their trade in the top-tier of DR Congo in stream B alongside the likes of AS Vita and Maniema Union.
LINKS WITH RETURN TO DSTV PREMIERSHIP
Eymael has also been linked with a return to the DStv Premiership multiple times. Last season, his agent confirmed they had talks with AmaZulu before Pablo Franco Martin was named Romain Folz’s successor.
Reports also suggested he was one of the favourites for the Richards Bay FC job before Kaitano Tembo took over.
