Thembinkosi Lorch opens up on Sundowns move

DStv Premiership star Thembinkosi Lorch has opened up on his move to Mamelodi Sundowns after he was announced on Saturday morning.

On the deadline day, Pirates revealed that Lorch is set to leave the Sea Robbers following advanced talks with Sundowns management.

A few hours before the deadline, Orlando Pirates announced that their star player nicknamed ‘Nyoso’ has left the club. This was after an agreement between the club’s chairman Irvin Khoza and the Sundowns management.

The 30-year-old left the club with six months left on his contract. His deal with the Soweto giants was set to end of the current season; June 2024.

Lorch is Sundowns’ fourth signing in the January transfer window. The club bolstered their squad by acquiring the services of Zuko Mdunyelwa, Matias Esquivel and Tashreeq Matthews.

“I always wanted to join a team like Sundowns. I’m happy to be here and looking forward to see the best. My name is Thembinkosi Lorch and I’m proud to be yellow,” Lorch told Sundowns media department.

Lorch will be aiming to continue reviving his form with Masandawana. He overcame his injury woes and returned from suspension after his Gender Based Violence case on his then-girlfriend Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala in November 2023.

At Sundowns, he will face stiff competition for a place in the starting line-up. In his position there are players like Themba Zwane, Marcelo Allende and Neo Maema.

This season Lorch didn’t feature too much for Pirates. He only made 10 appearances in all competitions and had one assist. However, he was performing good on the field walking away as Man of the Match in some games.
