Richard Ofori breaks silence after Ghana’s AFCON failure
Ghana national team and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori has broken his silence after the Black Stars’ failure at AFCON.
Ghana’s captain, Ofori was brutally slammed following a blunder he made against Mozambique, leading to a goal that ultimately sent his side out. He conceded two goals in each of the three group matches they played.
The AFCON four-time winners couldn’t make it out of group stages with Cape Verde and Egypt securing places in the last 16. Subsequently, the Ghana Football Association [GFA] released a statement relieving coach Chris Hughton of his duties.
The FA has yet to appoint his successor.
Ofori has come out to issue an apology to the nation and express gratitude for the support while at the tournament. He went on to promise to do better in the future.
RICHARD OFORI SPEAKS FOLLOWING GHANA’S AFCON FAILURE
“To the wonderful people of Ghana, I humbly extend my heartfelt apologies for our team’s performance at AFCON,” he wrote on social media.
“As a collective, we fell short. We gave our all in previous games, and it pains me that we couldn’t achieve the desired result in the end.
“I want to express our gratitude for your unwavering support and reassure you that we love God and are committed to learning from this experience.
“We promise to work harder, address our mistakes, and strive for a better outcome in the future. Your understanding means the world to us.”
Ghana now wait for the continuation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. They have won once and lost once in the two matches they have played so far and are fourth on the table.
In June, they take on Mali away on the 3rd and welcome the Central African Republic on the 10th.
