Golden Arrows announce the signing of a Zambian defender

DStv Premiership side Golden Arrows have announced the signing of the Zambian defender John ‘Big John’ Mwengani.

It’s a second signing announced by Abafana Bes’thende in a space of four days as they prepare for the resumption of the league next month.

Arrows recently announced the 26-year-old fellow Zambian Moyela Libamba. Libamba has been capped five times by the Chipolopolo with just one goal. He has played for clubs such as Super Lions Arcady, Lusaka Dynamos, Indeni FC and Forest Rangers in Zambia.

The striker was also part of the Zambia side at the COSAFA Cup held in Durban last year.

ANOTHER ZAMBIAN SIGNING FOR GOLDEN ARROWS

On Tuesday, Arrows added a 29-year-old defender to bolster their defense. Mwengani is a well-travelled defender who has played for clubs such as Kansanshi Dynamos, Konkola Blades, Forest Rangers, Nkana F.C, Nakambala Leopards and Kansanshi Dynamos.

He has also featured one for the Zambia national teams.

“I am here to run, to fight, to serve, tackle, assist, score and to win. I am here to do everything for this badge,” he said in a short video posted by the club on their social media platforms.

ABAFANA BES’THENDE LOOKING TO GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS IN THE DSTV PREMIERSHIP

Arrows will be looking to redeem their early season form when the league resumes in February. Their first match will be at home against the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on 14 February.

Interestingly, they were neck and neck at the top of the log with Masandawana at the beginning of the season. A good run saw them lose just once in nine matches but their form drastically changed after changes in their technical team.

Former co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi jumped ship to Chippa United where he was appointed as the technical director. But his stay in Gqeberha was cut short and has now resurfaced at Richards Bay.

Arrows went through a slump of poor form and lost six straight matches which saw them drop to seventh spot.
