Phumlani Ntshangase faces another hurdle in club search

Former Bidvest Wits and Baroka FC midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase has encountered a stumbling block in his search for a new club as the PSL prepares for the second half of the 2023/24 season.

Ntshangase has been a free agent since parting ways with Baroka at the end of the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The 29-year-old utility player gained prominence in the colours of Wits, where he made over 100 appearances, scoring three goals while also making four assists.

During his stay at the Clever Boys, Ntshangase won the Absa Premiership [now known as DStv Premiership] in 2016. He also won the Telkom Knockout Cup in 2017 with Wits.

The central midfielder has been without a club for over six months, and his search for a club has proven to be rocky. Ntshangase was on trials at AmaZulu FC during the pre-season and impressed the coach, Pablo Franco Martin, but the deal didn’t materialise.

PHUMLANI NTSHANGASE STOPS TRAINING WITH MARITZBURG UNITED

Three weeks ago, FARPost reported that the holding midfielder was training with KZN-based side Maritzburg United. However, Ntshangase has now stopped training with the club, and he’s now keeping fit on his own.

“Phumlani Ntshangase felt that the communication with the club regarding his future was not transparent,” a source close to the player said. “He hasn’t been with a club for quite a while now, and he wants to get back to playing football again because he has a lot to offer the game.

“So, at the moment, Ntshangase is just training on his own and preparing himself for any move that may arise anytime from now.”

Ntshangase and his representative will have to expand their search for a new club to avoid having the player finish the 2023/24 season without kicking the ball.
